Unit Seems OK-Magellan Customer Service is TerribleJan 01, 2009 Plan on purchasing this unit only if you know you will never need any phone support.
Per the Magellan site any unit shipped with outdated maps is eligible for a no charge upgrade within 30 days. This unit shipped with outdated maps and is NOT eligible for the free upgrade as it is re manufactured. I made three separate phone calls to Magellan before I found a customer service rep that had any idea what the map upgrade program required and was able to tell me this unit was not included. After looking on the Magellan site I did find that this information was accurate and stated as a exclusion.
You get what you pay for and by the time you pay for the $79.99 needed map upgrade on top of the unit you could have bought something else. This in no bargain and with terrible customer service knowledge I would avoid this unit and all systems from Magellan. If you doubt my experience, call them for yourself.
Terrible ValueDec 29, 2008 This does not come with updated maps. Magellan then wants $80 to update the maps. You can find the BRAND NEW item for less than the total of refurbished + maps and get the 30 day map guarantee. I would not recommend this to anyone for that reason. Buying refurbished should offer some type of value to the consumer. As total cost of this unit compared to a brand new unit is actually more (if you just wait for a sale on the new unit), this does not offer the added value that a consumer should receive when knowingly purchasing refurbished goods. For that reason, I returned and will buy a competitors item. Explaining this logic to Magellan's customer service did no good.
Has almost every feature available, great sizeDec 29, 2008 I understand the appeal of larger screens but I much prefer the ability to remove a GPS quickly and pop it into a bag or a back pocket so that I can use it on the go, or just to prevent it from being stolen from the car. This navigation is the perfect size for that. Not only does it have a compact face but it is very thin and easily slips into a pocket.
I have owned the Cost-co special 3200 model, which is very similar but is missing almost all of the more modern features this 3250 has: voice command, traffic (free 3 month trial), bluetooth speakerphone, AAA listings. I paid $120 for that 3200 model about 6 months ago, and this one is of course much better. The refurb version looks pretty much new except some very minor scratches on the bezel, which I don't care about, and it includes a generic less-attractive AC adaptor for the car power plug. Still works fine.
I updated to the new firmware, which seems to lag occasionally when starting up. This is the only flaw which I am aware of. The graphics are subtly but usefully improved on the new firmware.

Nice device, but OLD mapsDec 20, 2008 I purchased this item expecting it to include a current set of maps as part of the refurbishing process. Instead it came with the 2006 version of USA maps which are 2-3 years old. I have another refurbished GPS unit, purchased a couple of years ago on Ebay from another manufacturer, and it came with a current set of maps but doesn't have some of the features this unit has. So I was extremely disappointed when neither Amazon.com or Magellan were at all interested in correcting the situation. So I would recommend against purchasing this item because you may need to spend another $75 right off the bat to update the maps.

Better after firmware upgradeDec 05, 2008 I bought this unit for my wife. Her job requires her to be on the road a lot.
When we first started to use it, I was afraid that some of the negative reviews I had read were going to be true for us. I am glad to report that we are having a very positive experience since upgrading the firmware from 2.something to 4.6.
If you are looking for a low cost GPS unit with some great features, I would recommend you give this one a chance.
